01 / The market

Europe's second largest vehicle producer

Spain is Europe's second largest vehicle producer after Germany and built 2,274,026 vehicles in 2025. That production base carries a large and mature independent spare parts market alongside it. For a new supplier the way in is not the OEM supply chain but the independent distributors and the parts chains.

Total including official networks, 46,426 workshops, CONEPA Libro Blanco del Taller, 2023 data. Spain keeps no national workshop register, so every figure is a sector measurement.

02 / The buyer

The purchasing groups are the doors you knock on

Most of Spain's independent spare parts channel is gathered inside a handful of purchasing groups. That means few doors and decision makers you can name. It also means getting into those groups demands discipline on stock, documentation and delivery.

What happens in the first ninety days

What to have ready

  • A reference number cross-match table with local catalogue equivalents
  • Approval number and its scope for items subject to type-approval
  • Minimum order, delivery time and warranty terms on a single page
  • A sample set, plus packaging and label specimens

Stock and delivery time

This is the real aftermarket question. The Spanish distributor wants the part the next day, and goods take days to travel from Bursa to Madrid. First orders open with small consignments and the distributor's own stock. Once volume settles, the options separate: the distributor holds consignment stock, you work with a local warehouse, or you build your own structure in Spain. The cost and timing of the three is a separate calculation, and it belongs to the second year, not to the start of the engagement.

Calendar

The sector meets at Motortec, held every two years at IFEMA Madrid. The next edition runs 7 to 10 April 2027. The 2025 edition drew 710 exhibiting companies and 65,514 trade visitors. Between fairs the work runs on telephone calls and visits.
